Pediatric Derm

What sets your practice apart?

Dr. Ladrigan is the only Triple Dermatology Board Certified AND Fellowship Trained Pediatric Dermatologist in our area. Her relationships with many local Pediatricians in her time as a Pediatrician, as well our commitment to see urgent concerns quickly, make the choice of referral an easy one for many local Health Care Providers. She has extensive experience with severe rashes in babies and children, difficult to treat acne and birthmarks. She has offered many thoughtful second opinions for patients who have not had success or gotten the answers to their skin concerns with other providers. She has treated hundreds of children with laser for a variety of birthmarks and conditions.

Do you treat hemangiomas?

Yes! And with great comfort. Check out Dr. Ladrigan’s informational video.

We get numerous referrals from Dermatologists across New York State for evaluation and treatment of hemangiomas. We also see many concerned parents who want to do the best by their children. Parents are sometimes led to believe that their child’s hemangioma will disappear with time, however, that is not always the case. Many hemangiomas can leave a scar, depression, extra fatty tissue or discoloration if not treated early. Many parents have heard from another provider that their baby will need to start a “heart medication in the hospital”. Dr. Ladrigan has had extensive experience with an FDA approved medication, with safety testing down to 5 weeks of age, specifically for hemangiomas that begins to work within a few days for some patients, and will not require hospitalization or special testing. Dr. Ladrigan has also lasered babies as young as 7 days without anesthesia and great results.

What treatments do you recommend for acne?

We have great comfort with numerous topical therapies, oral antibiotics, hormonal therapies as well as treatments that avoid antibiotics and hormones. We also are well versed in prescribing isotretinoin (previously known as Accutane). Every patient is different and we are committed to working to find the right combinations of therapies for each patient.

Do you treat eczema?

This is one of the most common concerns that parents and children come in for. We have experience with topical, oral and injectable treatment for people of all ages,

What can I do for my scars and uneven skin tone?

Microneedling is a procedure used to treat fine lines, discoloration and scars. We have had great success with this. Your face (or other treatment area) is numbed for about 1 hour prior to treatment. A provider (MD or NP) then uses a device with a large number of tiny needles that cause microinjuries to the skin. You will be very comfortable during the procedure. The tiny injuries cause your skin to make new collagen and healing factors that repair the damaged skin. Two to four treatments are recommended, however you will notice results even after the first treatment. The downtime is only the day of the procedure. You can carry on with your normal activities the next day.

Are there less invasive treatments?

Yes! We have cosmetic treatments that will fit every budget, lifestyle, skin type and comfort. We offer the gentlest chemical peels and medical microdermabrasion with almost no downtime. Your provider will evaluate your skin and discuss your concerns before picking out the best option for you.
